Well that was disappointing. Great first issue really liked the concept, a group of golden age superhero archetypes in an interesting situation. Also nary a batman analog in sight, bonus points for that. Then the next issue is 90% backstory, and the next and finally things start moving a bit and then its over with the promise that next time there might actually be a story. But i didn't get much of one this time so i won't hold my breath :P .

There might be some characters so engaging that watching them sit around doing nothing is still entertaining but this ain't them.
Also if you place Space Balls and Watchmen at either end of a spectrum this comic would be hard to pinpoint, it sort of moves up and down and the times it approaches Space Balls (ie Parody) really undermine the times it approaches Watchmen.

So a few interesting concepts but little more as far as i'm concerned. ( )

A very fun, creative, and interesting new comic. Picked it up kind of on a whim at the Hershey Library yesterday, and definitely glad I did. Similar in vein to that of The Watchmen in that it takes stereotypical/prototypical 50s/60s/70s comic book heroes, and turns everything on its head.

This issue shows (sort of) the backstory to the prominent characters (Golden Gail, Abe Slam, Barbiella, Colonel Weird, Madam Dragonfly, Talky-Walky) and gives you some clues/hints to why they are trapped on this remote farm. There is also very little backstory given about Weber - aka - Black Hammer. But you know he did a heroic sacrifice and this has led to them being on this farm and being trapped within the town.

Very curious and interested to see where this goes. The Hershey Library has the second volume, and with how quickly I devoured this first one (and with their library book sale going on and not being able to really visit the library for a few days) I wish I had grabbed both volumes at once.
