The reason I wouldn't give it a higher rating is mainly because of continuity issues. It distracts me from the story when continuity is lost. I also feel as if things happened a little too quickly without enough explanation. That said, I enjoyed the story enough to bump the rating up rather than down. I will probably read the next book in the series at some point, but it won't be at the top of my TBR list. ( ) This book wants to get to the reward without putting in the work to actually build emotional investment or even develop believable relationships at all. Relationships are not determined by their history but by the current plot needs and how much drama the author wants to invoke. But this is not how proper storytelling works. Beyond the amateur writing, the plot couldn't be more generic and unoriginal as well. So it's just an unoriginal concept executed badly. This was an odd read. Blair was kind of unlikeable. She did grow on me but it took a while. She also made me sad, she was so closed off from everyone and everything and it made me feel lonely just thinking about it. The whole thing with Adrian at the end Grave Mistake by Izzy Shows is a fantastic urban fantasy with magic, demons, wizards, and a newbie mage. Lots of action, humor, great fantasy, sorcerer-type powers, talking ravens, (yep, talking ravens, it will make sense when you read the book), women in armor, and lots of kick butt fighting. It is my kind of fantasy novel! I enjoyed it completely! I am ready for book 2. The author was generous enough to let me read this, thanks so much. The least I can do is tell the world what I think of it. IT IS F*#KING AWESOME. There, got that out of my system. I love the well developed characters, very unique and wonderful. I really want to see how the relationship develops between Mel and Blair. Adding Fred was an act of brilliance. I just love all the characters! The plot was well planned and delivered like a rich piece of tiramisu while being on a diet, it arriving just when was I needing it and wanting it the most. It is refreshing to find a new kind of fantasy that makes me excited. Thanks again. no reviews | add a review
