When you have a super-spy, regardless of whether or not he suffers from amnesia, I don't think the bad guy should be able to anticipate his every move. I almost didn't finish the book when Jason's enemy actually showed up in a very random place far enough ahead of him to lie in ambush. The story line was good, but I think the only thing that got me through the book was fond feeling for the first three. ( )

This book is Lustbader's 3rd effort to keep alive Robert Ludlum's character of Jason Bourne. With the success of two recent Bourne movies, it's not a bad career move. In fact, since this book reads something like a screenplay, perhaps a movie is what Lustbader has in mind. Unfortunately, as a book, The Bourne Legacy leaves something to be desired.

The best I can say is that the plot idea was interesting, and some of the action scenes had their moments. But it's not well written; Lustbader is not Ludlum, and like several recent writers, he can't sustain excitement without shifting rapidly from one scene to another (the literary equivalent of coitus interruptus). I was looking for some escape fiction and wanted to like this book; and so, I gamely stuck with it to the end, but there are far too many characters, and the book is easily 150 pages too long. It was a relief when it was over! ( )

This book is very good and recreates the Ludlum character Jason Bourne very well. It is a very good book that is difficult to put down at the end. ( )

Creator Dies; Jason Bourne Lives

He’s back. Despite Robert Ludlum’s passing, his most famous character, Jason Bourne, has a life of his own.

He is now a professor of Eastern Studies at Georgetown University. He has assumed his old name – new to readers – David Webb. He leads a quiet life. Until one day he finds himself the target of another agent.

The action is furious. The twists are surprising. The events are often violent. The intrigue is not as convoluted as the original trilogy.

It is not vintage Ludlum, but to those who savored the originals it is not a bad second. ( )

Once, Jason Bourne was notorious in the clandestine world of covert-ops as one of the CIA's most expert international killers for hire. Out of the ashes of his violent past he's emerged today as a Georgetown professor, living a quiet life, retired from danger-until he narrowly escapes the bullet of a faceless assassin. And when two of Bourne's closest associates are murdered, Bourne knows that his legacy has followed him-and set him up as prime suspect for the brutal crimes. The quicksand of lies and betrayals is deeper than Bourne ever imagined. Hunted by the CIA as a dangerous rogue agent, he has only one option to stay alive-and one last chance to stay one step ahead of an unseen assailant whose vengeance is personal. Pursued across the globe, Bourne's on the run, and on the edge of discovering the truth-that he's become the expendable pawn in an international terrorist plot. One that's taking every living witness with it and plunging Bourne one step closer to the world-shattering consequences of...
