HTML:With his New York Times bestselling Doc Ford novels, author Randy Wayne White has been hailed as â??the best new writer since Carl Hiaasenâ?ť (Denver Post). But decades ago, under the pen name Randy Striker, he was already delivering non-stop thrills with exâ??Navy SEAL Dusky MacMorgan, who finds that seduction can be the deadliest thrill of all. MacMorgan has been many things to many people in his lifetime: warrior, adventurer, lover, hell-raiser, and hero. Now, the U.S. government wants him to be something elseâ??an assassin. At the ultra-exclusive Florida resort of St. Carib, the rich, famous, and elite flock to have their bodies sculpted and scalpeled to perfection. An odd destination for MacMorgan, but thatâ??s where heâ??s landed in his quest to take out a cabal of international terrorists before they can wipe out the resortâ??s entire coddled client list. But MacMorgan never expected to fall for a woman whose beauty is beyond reckoningâ??and he never expected to become a target fo No library descriptions found. |

Here’s an example:
“We can only assume that, barring some freak accident,
Fizer was indeed onto FEAT’s assassin, found him,
and was eliminated by him.”
“Murdered, you mean, dammit!” I found myself cracking
the table with my fist.
Clunky writing, cardboard cut-out characters, gear porn (weapons, watches, etc.) is all here. But there’s also a bit of what White has always done best: descriptions of Florida nature and environment, especially the waterways. This series was never about literature – well maybe Playboy’s version of literature – so for its intent Assassin’s Shadow is not a bad book for something quick and adventurous with a Florida angle.
White may be more of a salesman than a writer now, with his restaurants and hot sauces, but he’s always been a reliable creator of Florida thrillers. ( )
