Matilda Ashby has seen the monsters that lurk in the shadows of Manhattan-and within the walls of her family business. While creatures of myth aren't hunting her anymore, she can't say the same for Samson, her former bodyguard, after a photograph of the telepath in danger finds its way to her desk. Desperate to save him, Matilda dusts off her Manolos and ventures back into the supernatural world, a world she wanted nothing more than to leave behind. However, Matilda isn't the only one searching for Samson. Necromancers, sent by Samson's former boss, are hot on her heels, and her MBA curriculum didn't include a course on how to kill them. So, in order to save Samson, she'll have to trust former enemies-and her instincts-to get him back. But in a world where being human is a weakness and being kind is a liability, Matilda isn't sure how she can succeed in saving him, especially when her brother, and the family business, needs her too.… (more)

I loved this book and am in love with the characters. This book had me pulled in from the very beginning of the read.

Didn't care for this one, found it much too wordy with little action. Do not care for romances and this was all over romance and silly about it, got tired of hearing about the boyfriend but the characters weren't developed enough to care about. Its the second book in a series so I guess all the development was in the first book, but this one didn't grab me enough to care to read the first. ( )

The Unrighteous Son] by Gabrielle Ash. Matilda Ashby is back at Ashby Industries with her surviving brother, trying to put her life back together, but also missing Samson the assassin-turned-bodyguard that she fell for in the last book. When she receives a letter with a photo of Samson being menaced by a woman with a knife, she panics and gets hauled back into the supernatural world, trying to find and save him. Matilda has more than a tendency to go off half-cocked, or to freeze up with indecision and not go off at all, and it got a bit disorienting as she went back and forth. She has skills and money, but no self-confidence. Anyway, it was overall enjoyable, and I'll definitely look out for the next in the series. Early Reviewer book received in return for an honest review.

An interesting book. I did get a bit frustrated with Matilda-the main character. She's a human trying to survive when she's dumped into a conflict with supernaturals while trying to locate her supernatural boyfriend. She'd give herself these big pep talks about being strong then a minute later she freezes and can't function when faced with a threat. Just a bit to wishy washy for me. It was still an enjoyable read. I received this copy from early reviewers but I would go ahead and get the 3rd book when it comes out. ( )
