Gr 2–4—Yesenia is a small girl who narrates everything plátanos stand for in her family from the Dominican
Republic. Of course, Norman and Palacios ensure that readers are desperately hungry when they close this book,
but they also elevate a comfort food to a cultural icon, a path to memory, and a welcome home.

This book with work well for a read along with primary aged students or for independent reading for intermediate students. The story follows the daughters perspective of her the cooking traditions her family follows using plantains. This books shows a Dominican republic culture while living in the US. Could use this in a class to talk about cooking traditions.
