In this exciting debut novel comes a fast-paced thriller that follows a sports reporter's journey off the court...and into a world of murder and deception. Former Olympic athlete and sports reporter Kate Green isn't sure how much more tumultuous her life can get. She's been put on temporary leave from her job, then NBA superstar Kurt Robbins is killed and the prime suspect in his murder is none other than his wife...and Kate's best friend. Kate knows that Yvette's marriage wasn't exactly stable, but her friend is no murderer, and Kate is determined to prove it with her own investigation. While she tries to salvage Yvette's life, Kate's own continues to unravel. Her career is in limbo. Gossip columns speculate about her future. Her children are battling their own demons. And her estranged father suddenly reenters her life as a detective assigned to Kurt's homicide case. As her worlds collide--exposing secrets, lies, and ulterior motives--Kate may have to choose between the games she can play and the one she might lose.… (more)

First novels are sometimes a mixed bag. Here we have the evidence. The plot’s quite good with some neat surprises right up to the last few pages. But the story paddles along until about halfway. I wouldn’t be surprised if some readers were gone already. The characters aren’t fully fleshed, with the exception of the protagonist who is clearly based on the author herself. Nothing wrong with that.

In two words? Shows potential. ( )

This was quite good...not quite sure IF I woulld read Book 2 with Kate as the investigator...even if she is finally going to discover why her father, Liam, left. Kate's relationship with Yvette is a little "odd" from the beginning and then there is the ending...not sure I agree with her conclusion. ( )

Kate Green is a former soccer star player turned sports commentator, but is suspended for some unwise comments to Mason Burke, a professional basketball player and one of her best friend's husband, when the story begins. She is divorced from her husband Tyler and has 11th grade twins, Jackson and Nikki. Her best friend Yvette Robbins, wife of basketball superstar Kurt Robbins, with daughter Dylan, is suspected of killing him in their kitchen. Kate's estranged father, Liam Murphy, enters the book as a NYPD detective assigned to the case. She does not believe her friend is a murderer even though their marriage was unusual with Kurt's many dalliances. With her suspension, Kate decides to investigate on her own. ( )
