This is a fascinating little book about the transformation of the American Navy from the rusting, corrupt malaise it found itself in after the Civil War, to a modern, visionary, steel behemoth it became in the years leading up to and after the Spanish American War. The book also focuses on the role Roosevelt played in the development of the Navy as assistant secretary and then as president. ( )
