Succubus Blues (the first book in this miraculous series) was one of my top books for 2019. Ever since I was in high school, Richelle Mead was one of my faves. Vampire Academy, Gameboard of the Gods and the Storm Born series ranked high on my list! It seemed only natural to finally pick this seires up.

Georgina Kincaid is a succubus with a mortal, author boyfriend named Seth (she is his ultimate fangirl, by the way). After the contents of the last novel, she learns that they cannot touch or get it on without killing him (that's a good way to kill the vibe in a relationship). Meanwhile, one of her co-workers has been acting pretty strange, and to top it all off her old incubus buddy Bastien is back in town. Can't a girl catch a break?

I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first one, if I'm being brutally honest. The first book felt like a fairy tail and put really high expectations in my head! Unfortunately, Succubus on Top just didn't meet those expectations. That being said, it was still a fun ride and worth the read. Everyone I talk to says the series only gets better, and I'm up for the challenge.

Georgina is a relatable character (despite the fact she basically has to sell her body to stay alive). She has flaws, her relationship isn't perfect and she has temptations. I think we can all relate to that in some way. There are moments where I'm yelling in my head that this is a bad idea, but I know full well I've probably made one similar. Then, to top it all off, Seth is the dream man that every girl dreams of and more! That's probably why this is making out to be an excellent love story. He cares and understands her in ways most people just don't get, and it's super romantic. Yet, this isn't the typical romance novel. It's not ooey, gooey or mushy gushy - it's an adult relationship with depth and character (that might sound boring, but I promise you, there's lots of sex and sexy scenes in this book).

I found the plot to be predictable in this book, while I didn't really see everything coming in the first book. It's not the end of the world, but for a sequel I was surprised it didn't hit me as well as the first book did. Also... there was some quick forgiveness in this book and I feel like it's not entirely... accurate? Maybe it's just me.

Another plus for me is all of the side characters - the vampires, demons, angels, etc. Seriously, Carter seems like a fun guy, just saying.

Overall, Richelle Mead is a great writer with lots of grand ideas. I'd recommend picking up this series if you want a romance novel that is so much more (but still packs a good punch!). If you're tired of the tired billionaire or jerky bad boy, meet Seth the nerdy, sweet and understanding author. He'll give you chills and be the ultimate book boyfriend.

Three out of five stars. ( )

Fun book. Great to listen to while doing other things like exercising and cleaning. Looking forward to the rest of the series. Georgina is a fun narrator. ( )

Something light and fluffy in between more "serious" or just time consuming books... ( )

Meh. The story was predictable on multiple levels, and it required the protagonists to be dumb to make it work. I hate it when books rely on stupid decision making to prevent the story from coming to an early end. More fundamentally, I just don't buy Georgia as a very old and experienced character, which leaves me disliking her in general. She seems barely functional as an adult, let alone a centuries old creature that is an expert at manipulation. I think this series is just not for me. ( )

I'm loving this series! Georgina is a succubus. In the first book she's reluctant at best when it comes to her work. She made a deal with her boss in the last book to protect the man she loved and now she's got to keep up her end of the job and suck down the energy of willing men. The trouble comes in that Seth and she can't work out their sexual frustration with each other without Georgina sucking away his life. Fun! Not so much for Georgina and Seth, but lots for me!

To add insult to injury, Georgina's best friend, incubus Bastien is in town, trying to get the score of the century. He sucks Georgina into his games and tries to get her back out on the town like the old days. This complicates things, as Seth is leading a life of celibacy while Georgina is keeping up her end of the deal and getting plenty on the side, without Bastien's help.

As if that wasn't enough Georgina's friend Doug is exhibiting odd behavior, and it seems to be catching.

Mead has an amazing ability to make a main character who should come off as a slut come off as really likeable. I really enjoy the love interest too. He's not the typical alpha male and this actually makes him even more appealing, as he and Georgina actually have a weird but really intimately sweet relationship. The other characters are just as entertaining again. Bastien is fun but I won't necessarily miss him in future books the way I would Hugh or Carter.

As in the first book, I figured out the bad guys along the way, and how Bastien could get his score of the century, but it's so fun watching it play out that I don't mind.

I recommend this if you like to get away from the old werewolf/vampire thing everyone else has going on. If you like this series I'd also recommend [b:Trick of the Light|6294062|Trick of the Light (Trickster, #1)|Rob Thurman|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1240260551s/6294062.jpg|6478436]. Georgina reminds me of Trixsa in all the good ways. ( )

Book description
Love hurts, and no one knows it better than Georgina Kincaid. If she so much as kisses Seth Mortensen, the shy, sexy, incredibly gifted Seattle writer she's been dating, she'll drain his life force. Georgina is a succubus - a demon who draws her power from other men's pleasure. Admittedly, the shapeshifting and immortality perks are terrific, and yes, Georgina did choose to join the ranks of hell centuries ago. But it seems completely unfair that a she-demon whose purpose is seduction can't get hot and heavy with the one mortal who knows and accepts her for who she is.

It's not just her personal life that's in chaos. Doug, Georgina's co-worker at a local bookstore, has been exhibiting bizarre behaviour, and Georgina suspects that something far more demonic than double espressos is at work. She could use help finding out, but Bastien, an irresistibly charming incubus and her best immortal friend, is preoccupied with corrupting an ultra-conservative talk radio star - and giving Georgina some highly distracting come-hither vibes. Georgina is going to have to work solo on this one - and fast because soon, Doug's life won't be the only one on the line.
