This is a great adaptive book for the story Tom Sawyer. Tom Sawyer is the town trouble maker who runs around with Huck Finn causing trouble. One night when Tom and Huck sneak out to the grave yard they overhear Engine Joe and two other guys talking about gold and treasure. The gold and treasure is hidden in a cave. Later on when Tom and Huck go searching for the gold they find it in a cave along with a dead Engine Joe. However, the boys keep the treasure and become the riches people in town. This book is filled with adventure of living on the Mississippi River during the late 1700's. The book has been adapted to meet the needs of lower level readers and drawings have been added to help with comprehension. It is a great supplemental tool to use in the general education classroom for the student with a reading goal and an IEP. ( )
