Whopper Cake
Summary: "Whopper Cake" by Karma Wilson a book about a grandma's birthday and grandpa wants to make her a huge cake. He uses a lot of ingredients in a huge bowl. But the bowl is not big enough. So they decided that since grandma likes ice cream a lot they would go to town and get some. On the way to town, the cake started baking in the trunk bed.

Personal Reaction: I loved that the pictures gave so much detail. I also liked the rhyme of it and know that the kids probably do too.

Classroom Extension Ideas:
1. I would have them bake a whopper cake in a class by following the instructions on the back of the book.
2. I would also have them draw a picture of a cake.

Summary: Grandma heads to town and grandpa sets out to make her a whopper cake. He doesn't build just a regular cake but a WHOPPER cake. He makes the cake so big that he has to make it in the back of his truck! When grandma comes home she is so surprised. Grandpa says to her that she deserves a cake so big, because her heart is just as big.

Personal Reaction: This book was so cute! The colorful pages makes it a fun book to read. It is kind of funny but cute. Students would love this book!

Classroom Extension Ideas
1. The students could bring items to class to contribute to the whopper cake and make a unique cake as a class.
2. They could make a whopper cake from the recipe given in the book.
3. Could be read on grandparents day.
4. They could draw their own idea of a whopper cake

Summary: This book is about a grandpa wanting to bake a cake for grandma because it is her birthday. Grandma says not to make a fuss over her but grandpa decides to make her a Whopper cake. He mixes the ingredients but uses way too many. His bowl becomes too small for his mixture and he decides to pour it into the bed of a truck. The cake bakes in the truck with the help of the sun. Grandma is so surprised to see her huge Whopper cake and she uses her birthday wish to clean up the huge mess.

Personal Reaction: I thought this book was very cute. It made me giggle while reading it. The pictures are very fun which I feel the younger children will enjoy. I cannot wait to add this book to my own library.

Classroom Extensions:
1. Have a day where you bake a cake with the classroom.
2. Ask the students to make up their own story using rhymes.
3. Read this story on grandparents day so the grandparents can enjoy it as well.
