NCLA Review - For English speaking people, there is no choral work that has achieved greater popularity than Handel’s Messiah. The libretto was taken from the Old and New Testaments. It reveals the Christian plan of redemption beginning with the OT prophecies and concluding with the final triumph of Christ in the NT. The Messiah is frequently heard during the Easter and Christmas seasons. Handel composed this magnificent choral work in just three weeks! This DVD recorded and filmed on show more December 14. 2002, is a truly ecumenical project. It features Israel’s Upper Galilee Choir and Ranaana Symphonette Orchestra performing at Tabgha, a German Benedictine Church located on the site where Christ performed the miracle of feeding the 5000 along the Sea of Galilee. The performance was expertly recorded and filmed. It is also available in CD format. This recording will become a favorite for any church library’s music collection. If you do not have Handel’s Messiah, this is one to consider. The libretto can be downloaded through the Internet. Rating: 3 —BS show less
