Hinges of Hell is along the lines of a more traditional police procedural mystery involving an arson- murder investigation. It brings together themes about high society, rebellious teenagers eloping, a bevy of jewels, jealousy, and more. The dogged inspector's investigation is worth following, although the manner of the narration itself is not altogether compelling.
