This book made me hungry. What I mean by that, is the book was so good I skipped breakfast, lunch and dinner to finish it. I was given this book for an honest review and I can't be more honest then, I loved it! The opening hooked me with young Jana about to go and serve some people, but I kept wondering who thse people were. Then it switched to Holt's perspective and I kept wondering, what about Jana. The show more author didn't make me wonder long. The book was very well written, the main charcters were fleshed out, the scenes were beilvable and the charcters actions within those scene were also believable. The book had several moments which made me pause and think about humanity, and was both entertaining and introspective. I can't wait for the next boom to come out. I would recommend this story to everyone because it has a little or every genre, suspense, horror, action, to some degree adventure. Overall, great piece of fiction. show less
While the theme of these short stories is incredibly depressing they were all well written and thought provoking. I find it sad to consider that the human race may well end up voluntarily incarcerated in their own dreams and fantasies. The response of religious groups to this was of particular interest. Suggest you give this a try. While the theme of these short stories is incredibly depressing they were all well written and thought provoking. This was a fast paced, post apocalyptic story. It's also a social statement about subjugation and helplessness, and the power-hungry bureaucrats who allow it. A really great story, but it does end in a bit of a cliffhanger.
A great collection of sci fi stories that will keep you interested and are enjoyable to read. A few duds here in the collection (Rumspringa, Irish Grudge) but stories like Cheat Code and Restricted Fantasies really shine and stand out to make the reading worth while. Recommended for sci fi beginners as the stories are short enough to keep the newbie entertained and at the same time gives them a chance to experience good sci fi reading. Definitely recommended and worth the time to read.
