The author isn't Māori, so the book isn't from an ao Māori perspective. It's structured by illnesses/symptoms, and for each one lists plants used as treatments and remedies, quoting from a variety of sources for details: essentially it's a lavishly illustrated literature review. This means, while there generally isn't enough information to try and self-medicate, and not enough context to learn much about the culture or medical practices, nor is it particular interesting to read from cover show more to cover (I soon started skimming), it could be useful as a reference or starting point to further investigate. show less
