The idea for this book came from my grandma Alice's kids. My uncle was keen on fixing up old cars when he was in high school. This son was also a musician off Broadway in New York during the "folk music" era of the 60s. Later this son would create graphic arts in Canada and he would create masterpieces in wood and other items to decorate his home.
This delightful book was written by my grandparents and are reminiscent of stories they heard when growing up. Alice is from a Dutch and Swedish family and Tom Sankey is from a colonial Pennsylvania family.
This book was originally written by my grandmother for the Racine school system to satisfy a local history requirement. Alice's grandfather came from Het Bildt, Friesland, Netherlands at age 26, March 31, 1882 to Castle Garden and then on to Racine, Wisconsin.
