Produced from lithographic originals first printed in 1877, this binding comprises three documents: the so-called "Declaration of Independence of New Zealand", the original draft of the Treaty of Waitangi by the Lieutenant Governor William Hobson, and copies of the Treaty itself as finally adopted, signed by the principal Maori chiefs in various parts of both islands with their marks attested by responsible witnesses.
