An incredibly interesting document which details common instances of medical fraud and quackery at its time of publication (1911). Arthur J. Cramp is clearly passionate about this, and furious at the irresponsibility and greed of hucksters peddling either unhelpful or patently harmful miracle cures. There’s a ton of direct reference to advertisements and publications—it makes up the bulk of the book—which provide fascinating insight into the profusion and insanity of, well, nostrums show more and quackery.

I read this while researching for a paper I wrote a few years ago on the language of quackery and medical fraud during the Great War Era. You can read it for free here! (The book, not my paper.)

This was my first diabetic cookbook, which I bought a couple weeks after my diagnosis. I was scared, and also worried that life would have no more flavor. This book helped convince me I was wrong, with stupendous recipes that have actually led me to a new appreciation for food.

This was given to me, by my son's allergy/asthma doctor, when he was first diagnosed with asthma. I can't begin to tell you how helpful it was. After reading this, I felt that I could be a partner with the doctor in the prevention of my son's asthma attacks, and that I was no longer powerless before that dread word - asthma. It enabled me to know what type of asthma my son had, what the various treatments were and the pros and cons of each one. It helped me learn what various triggers were show more in our house and how to reduce or eliminate them. I love this book. show less
As accident prone and health unlucky as i am this book is an absolute necessity. It covers absolutely EVERYTHING (and it's a good idea NOT to sit down and read it cover to cover--paranoia may result--though reading through it before emergencies occur is a good idea--just space it out)
