Short biography
During World War II, Spring was an army aerial photographer. He was the photographer and co-author (with Harvey Manning) of many titles in the 100 Hikes series published by The Mountaineers. Ira Spring and his fraternal twin Bob published their outdoor photographs in Time, Life, National Geographic, Saturday Evening Post, and other national publications, books and advertisements. Probably their most famous photo was a back-lit color transparency, 8 feet high and 80 feet long, of Mount Shuksan in Washington's North Cascades, that was displayed in Grand Central Station in New York as an advertisement for Kodak products. Spring's daughter Vicky has carried on as an author of the 100 Hikes series.

Comprehensive, well researched and informative, yet with a touch of the anecdotal.
