This Fine Piece of Water has an environmental-movement spin — the geology and history lead up to a story of hypoxia in the late 80s and CT's and NY's attempts to curb nitrogen discharge into Long Island Sound. The author is a former journalist who was covering environmental news at the time, and so has some detailed knowledge of the politics and players.
This book comes with a great pedigree — it's published by Yale University Press, with a forward by Robert Kennedy, Jr., and the author show more has an EPA award for journalism. The source material is broad and includes interviews by the author, and Andersen also has a grasp of both science and politics, both of which are absolutely critical for understanding and explaining environmental policy. show less
