Midland Railway architecture; a pictorial record of Midland Railway stations (cover title: A pictorial record of Midland Railway architecture) by V.R. Anderson
A survey from contemporary photographs of the differing architectural styles used by the Midland Railway. However, there are some odd omissions; none of the Peak line stations (Ambergate - Chinley) are included, and none of Francis Thompson's noted buildings for the North Midland Railway, such as the second Ambergate station or North Wingfield are included. Given that Anderson and Fox went on a year later to cover the Settle & Carlisle in detail in a separate title from the same publisher, show more and given the greater homegeneity of that line's structures, it seems odd that the S&C is included in this book. Still, the literature of railway architecture is sparse enough (in comparison to books about, say, locomotives) for this title to be welcome regardless. show less
