- Edward Ranney received a B.A. in English and Spanish Literature from Yale University and traveled to Peru on a Fulbright Fellowship (1964-1965) for anthropological and literary fieldwork. Ranney became captivated by Incan stonework and began an annual photographic pilgrimage to Peru, resulting in Monuments of the Inca (1982) and Heights of Machu Picchu (1998). He administered the archive of Cuzco photographer Martin Chambi and led an Earthwatch Expedition in 1977 to print and organize the collection. A native of Chicago, Ranney photographed the route of the Illinois and Michigan Canal in 1992 and has annually photographed the "Star Axis" earthworks in New Mexico since 1978.
