I recall spending hours at a time thumbing through these pages as a child, captivated by the diversity of life cataloged in this 20-volume set. Although outdated, these volumes described in detail animals (and some single-celled organisms) while providing their taxonomy and stunning photographs and drawings. I would fall asleep reading these over and over again; turning the pages was always an adventure. I most certainly would pay good money for a similar modern set like this, even if it was show more 5 times as large. show less
Is something fishy at play with this book and its dustjacket? The bound volume has no number on the spine but the dustjacket is marked with number 5. I think someone has been jollying up their collection with the best possible dustjacket they could find. The dustjacket cover gives the price as 5 bob.,
Volume 3 of a series that contains 25 separate books; unfortunately I only possess two of these marvellous books.

This series is incredibly well done, exceptionally well researched and represented. The very fact that this series is included in The Library of Congress tells us that the information they contain is an important contribution to our knowledge and understanding of the natural history of our world.

It should also be noted that the origin of these phenomenal works came from The show more First Nations.

The original copyright was in 1969.
