Pop it by the bed, cruise in and out of it. I'm not saying it's as good as sex, but.

Here are a couple of things I've found out from it lately.

A goodreader recently asked me what the sexiest chess opening is. Well, it turns out there is a Horny Defence, created by Johann Horny, a 19th century German actor. This has got to be a front-runner, doesn't it?

And there is a chess player in here called Pratt and it turns out, Pratt by name...When he played blindfold chess he'd call his moves out in show more rhyming couplets. Actually, I fancy that would add to your chances of winning. show less
The inspiration for... (my) blog is the late Ken Whyld's chess book review newsletter the “Chess Reader” which was published from 1955 til 1966, the first five volumes under Ken Whyld editorship, the final volume under other editors. The “ Chess Reader” is available again published in book form thanks to the Publishing House of Moravian Chess which have reprinted so many chess classics of the past as well as publishing much new chess research.
The “Chess Reader” was and is a font show more of knowledge for the chess bibliophile, each issue displaying an easily worn erudition and a no nonsense style. If not every book issued in those 10 years was reviewed, but it seems at the very least every important book was reviewed. Books for the novice as well weighty tomes of opening, endgame and middlegame theory; tournament bulletins, chess biographies and books on chess compositions were all considered and reviewed. You may find yourself like me adding to your want lists after reading one of Ken Whyld's reviews. show less
This my reference book for everything chess. At least for the years covered. An invaluable book for those interested in all aspects of chess.
