I enjoyed reading about the dawn of the zombie apocalypse from two different perspectives. The first takes place on an airplane where Chinese passengers get sick and begin attacking others. The plane lands safely in Hawaii where the two main characters deal with the outbreak over a period of a few days. They join up with a pair of girls and barricade themselves in their hotel room while the violence outside continues unabated.
The second part is similar except this takes place in an airport show more terminal in Anchorage, Alaska and only during a single day. Again, a pair of TSA officers find themselves fighting for their lives and trapped within the terminal. They come upon survivors who join their groups as they try to find a way out of this nightmare.
I enjoyed the first book more as it seemed to flow better and hold my attention. It also spanned a few days and several different scenes where the second book seemed slower and didn't quite flow as well. Nevertheless, if you're in the mood for descriptive blood and guts and to see how people deal with the onset of an apocalypse, then take a chance on this book.

I originally thought that this series of four books would follow the same storyline and characters throughout the book. I was reeled in with the first story and characters and expecting to follow them through all four stories. Instead, there are four different stories with different characters and all seemingly beginning at the start of an apocalypse in different locations. There is a lot of duplication with the same sentences appearing every so often and typos galore; wrong words, missing show more letters in words, and out of place words within a sentence which was quite distracting. I almost believe these stories were recited to software that typed the words as they sounded. And I'm surprised that nobody took the time to proofread and make corrections
The author is excellent in his descriptions of the scenes and people - some are extremely gory and graphic, and had a good grasp on creating hopeless situations and buiding up the suspense. The follow through with the storyline bogged down in several places and in all the four books which made it tough to continue reading. I did stay on until the end but thought the first and last stories ended too soon. Kudos to the author for writing 600 plus pages about zombies...this, in itself, is quite a feat. However, if you are going to continue promoting this version, I strongly suggest it be cleaned up. show less

Great story of a zombie apocalypse at the breakout stage, set in Alaska. I liked the characters and enjoyed the story. I almost skipped this because I was not a fan of Dead Escape, another short story in the Necrose universe. The difference between the two was night and day.
Needed something short for a challenge, and dropped into a zombie world apocalypse. That's a Thursday night for you!
Nothing spectacular here. Some awkward dialogue. An couple of unlikeable characters, but if it launches more about surviving a zombie apocalypse in Alaska, I'll be back. Sounds like book one is different characters, different location (Hawaii, I believe) but same world disaster. I might be back if it fits a challenge.
2.5 stars.
