This book was so delicious I read it in one sitting!!! After all, what's not to like when you have a book about a supernatural contest that basically combined The Bachelor and Survivor? Filled with adventure, humor, mystery and more, it will have you mentally cheering our quirky main character along the way. Imagine being dragged by force, seemingly by mistake into a world you've never known. Everyone believes our main character is fae, yet she's human. Is it truly a case of mistaken show more identity, or could something more be afoot? Book one did a wonderful job of laying the groundwork to this series. I absolutely cannot wait for its follow up. show less
If it had not been for the author herself stating that this was her first novel, I'd be hard pressed to believe it. This is a fully realized story that seems to leap off the page to grab you and pull you in. The writing is such that you're drawn into Amber's life from the first chapter and the writing measures up to any established author's output.

Amber is an endearing girl who happens to be a student, a bookseller and a Wiccan. Along with the few friends she allows to get close to her, she show more has a lifestyle that suits her personality and nature. Once Damien enters her life, however, things start to slowly change as dark forces move in. As Amber and Damien come to realize that someone is targeting witches, they race to find out who is behind the killings before they become the next victims. It was a heart-stopping race to the finish as I feverishly read the final pages and I'm so glad this is a series so I can immediately jump into the next book. show less
Once again, Katerina Martinez has crafted an atmospheric and magical story that manages to bring mystery, fantasy, romance and suspense together in one novella that really entertains. This is a side-story about Damien before he meets Amber of the Amber Lee series. It can be read as a standalone; however, be warned that once you read it, you'll immediately want to read all of the books in the series.

The author's writing style is evocative and mesmerizing and manages to pull you into the story show more so effortlessly that you feel you're actually a part of the action along with the characters. In her descriptions of the dark and windy streets of San Francisco, I almost had shivers up my spine imagining myself on those cold and lonely streets and as the action progressed to the island of Alcatraz, I was almost afraid to read further because I didn't want to go into that dank and desolate prison.

This is a wonderful series for fans of the paranormal, with a dash of romance, thrills and horror, and I would highly recommend checking out this book as well as the entire Amber Lee series.

I was first drawn to the books of Katerina Martinez by the beautiful covers. And judging these books by their covers is a very good thing, because what's inside is just as beautiful and wonderful as the covers themselves. Actually, even more so, as I was immediately drawn to the lush descriptions, great dialogue and superb plotting. These books, and this series in general, keep getting better and better, as Amber's world opens up into a dark, complex and very compelling place.

Each time I show more read the next book in the series, I think it's my favorite, until the next one comes along. "The Red Witch" is no exception. Amber and Collette end up on their own, relying on their own resources and each other, and then things get dicey back in Raven's Glen. The atmosphere and settings in each of these books is such that I feel like I'm right there experiencing everything along with Amber. And Raven's Glen is a place I wish really existed, along with Amber's house and bookshop. I would feel right at home there. And you will too the moment you pick up these books and start reading. show less
