I loved this film, based on the novel of the same name by Henry James. A classic film titled The Heiress starring Olivia de Haviland was based on the same material, and the highest compliment I can pay to the film Washington Square and Jennifer Jason Leigh in Haviland's role is that I refuse to choose between them. Its hard for me to put my finger on the differences (Leigh's Catherine a bit more gauche I think), yet both seem distinct, yet both true to the original source. And both are very show more watchable and memorable. show less
Charming, emotional, honest; wonderful performances by all the kid actors. A childhood favorite unsullied by cuteness, visually lovely.
Two of Frances Hodgson Burnett's most treasured children's novels come to the screen in wondrous adaptations:
A Little Princess is the magical story of a girl who uses her powers of imagination and zest for life to overcome hardships at a stern boarding school.
Three lonely children are forever changed as they learn to trust each other while restoring and taking refuge in The Secret Garden.
