Nick Rains is a new author and photographer to me. Before I met Rains through his work I had a soft spot for another photographer called Steve Parish. Now I have to say that Rains is up there with Parish for me. This book is absolutely delightful. The photos are of a very high quality at times I felt like I was actually at the place/s being featured just because they were so life like.
Each entry consisted of a double page spread of the area/place that is being focussed on. Then the following show more page has a short paragraph about the photo on that page along with a map of the area being discussed. This map includes some numbers on it which are then used in another section called “Hotspots”. These Hotspots then include a short paragraph of what can be found there.
The book is absolutely full of high quality photos. There are morsels of text small enough that someone who is not confident with reading would find less scary to surmount.
This book was highly enjoyable and worth the read. show less

This is another brilliant contribution of photography from award winning photographer Nick Rains. The photos are such good quality that the reader almost feels like they are experiencing the places first hand. Once again the format of this book would appeal to those who find reading lots of text very hard. Apart from there being text at the introduction of each section and then a short description of what the photo is depicting there is no other text to read. This book would also appeal to show more those who just want to look at photos and not be bothered with doing a lot of reading.
There are many instances of double page spreads of photos throughout this book. It is pretty clear that Rains wants the photos to speak for themselves rather than include lots of text - which he manages to achieve very well.
I was particularly impressed with the photo he chose to include for Western Australia. WA is known for its rugged and very red mountains and the photo Rains included here captures that spectacularly. The photo was of the Mitchell Falls in the Kimberley. I could look at this one photo for ages. The ragged cliff edges are so well defined it does something to the heart strings. show less
