An excellent and very up to date look at cybercrime. It includes history of how hackers have used the internet and the web to create malware, bots, spyware and similar programs. In addition, it details how certain hackers stole data or fooled people into giving passwords and other personal data, how some were tracked and describes how countries like Russia, China and North Korea have groups or government agencies that are specifically ordered to commit cyber crimes, as well as noting some of show more the more famous victims. It doesn't mince words about the efforts by foreign countries to disrupt US elections, either. A good book in a good series for public and school libraries show less
Etienne's story is similar in some ways to Baseema's. However, he was conscripted as a child by rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo and was forced to do things that left him with PTSD and major guilt. Even though he, his mother and sister were able to journey to Canada and were granted asylum, his father and older brother remain behind and the family doesn't know whether they're alive or not. His story offers plenty of insight into the hurdles such a past have created, as well as show more showing statistics regarding the numbers who have fled and how many were granted asylum. It's both dark and quite enlightening. show less
Another excellent book in this series. I'm especially impressed by how it doesn't sugar coat the darker moments in medicine. medical/drug trial risks, the history of the vaccines cause autism myth and what happened to Thalidomide babies are among the entries here. It also gives readers plenty about medicine's successes and where the field is headed. A good pick for STEM collections.
