I read this to the two Head Start classes through the library program I volunteer for. Great illustrations and concept but the "like" instead of "as" chafes.
This good-natured but incoherent book was written by that kid who in high school when you got high just wanted to tell you about how amazing and freaky your eyes, nose, fingers, and toes were.
A song of colors was a great poetry book that I had fun reading. Each page was a poem that was centered around a certain color. Each poem was filled with great imagery and alliteration, as the color was mentioned many times throughout the poem filled with beautiful illustration. The author used Dramatic Voice by using Mask and spoke through the persona of each color. I enjoyed how the author did this and made each color come to life. Sometimes we don’t realize how important colors are and show more how they are all around us, reading this to young children may help them view the world in ways they never viewed it before. show less
Judging by the fact that my copy is in near mint condition, even though it was retrieved from a Little Free Library, and even though it has a thrift-store sticker indicating at least one previous owner, I'm not the only one unimpressed. It's soporific, but not in a good way, imo. And also imo the art is too cartoony, not sweet or fun.
