After hearing Levitch proclaim that the "ongoing WOW is happening right Now!", my curiosities of the man lead me to this book. And what a delight it was.

The whole point of Levitch's book is too reveal to us, I think, that we are most certainly lost, and that bliss is found in exclaiming to ourselves that being lost is perfect. Levitch fills each page with metaphors that tingle the brain and fancy our flesh. He constantly points us to a place where we can see things just as they are. I didn't show more realize how well known Levitch was until I stayed with a Polish friend of mine in NYC who told me many of people come to NY looking for him! And why not? The man is outrageous in a world that seems so un-outrageous. What Levitch is really trying to do is bring human beings back to humanity, to show us all that every moment is a chance for us to move closer to the erotic and chaotic current Happening! show less
When you listen to Speed talk (or write, in this case) you get so wrapped up in his riffs that you never stop to ask yourself if what he's saying is true, or if all that's important is that you believe it... This is a "psychogeography" of New York, your own personal tour led by the manic, charismatic Speed Levitch, whose relationship with New York reminds me a bit of Woody Allen on, well, speed. It's up to you to decide whether he's a Hebrew mystic or a lunatic (or both, possibly a Lamed show more Vovnik?). I met him once, and he wrote me the following message on the back of a movie ticket (paraphrasing): "In 20,000 BC, you were my light and love." Also highly recommended: "The Cruise," Bennett Miller's film which tracks Speed as he gives double-decker bus tours of the Big Apple. show less

Witty, manic and thought-provoking tour of New York by Timothy "Speed" Levitch. He offers up a funny and true meditation of life in "Black Rock City" - 'a great metropolis and its parody simultaneously.'
