Recently (2009), a new book was published with photographs of Koen Wessing (Amsterdam, 1942) taken in China in the mid 1980's. However I prefer the prints as they are published in this 1987 catelogue from an exhibition in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
The gritty life of the average Chinese Mr. Wessing portrayed was quite like the country I saw in 1988.
William Klein and Ed van der Esken are Mr. Wessing's heroes, and you find that reflected in these black and white pictures.
