John R. Wilch

This one's a commentary on the book of Ruth in the Bible. Now the book of Ruth isn't much of a controversial book, as far as Biblical books go. It's pretty much a straightforward story. But even if it's not helping you think through a difficult passage, a commentary is good for slowing you down and making you think about the book you're studying. Dr. Wilch's commentary here does just that. He explains some of the background of the culture, including his reasons for translating some verses show more from chapter four differently from most other translators. He also shows some good parallels between the story of Ruth and some of the tales in Genesis, as well as parallels with Christ. (The latter, of course, being a necessity in a Christian commentary.) It's definitely worth checking out.
