This book has a few entries that are more poetic and more entertaining than some of the other editions. In spite of the intriguing style of one or two contributors, however, there is still a huge emphasis on long lists of businesses, schools, churches, and people who once inhabited the town; most of these read like fillers to make a slightly longer story out of a town that didn't have a lot of events. Because each entry is written by a different author, the style and the quality of the show more entries varies highly. show less
Interesting, but overly wordy, description of towns in Nebraska. Weaknesses of the book: it only includes incorporated towns, so many potentially interesting towns are missed. Also, the books were written in a real boosterish style, rather than being objective narratives, so you end up getting long lists of every business, church, or school that has ever graced the town, giving some of the narratives the tedious feel of "begats".
