Czechoslovakia: The Short Goodbye - Abby Innes - (read 26 Nov 2002) This book deals with the breakup of Czechoslovakia in 1993 into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and the political course of the two countries since then. The earlier chapters are turgid and a chore to read, and are short of explanation of the more obscure facts, but the latter part of the book telling of events in the two countries since the split are of much interest. I read four books about Czechoslovakia in 1981 show more and 1982, related to visiting the country in 1981, and it is great that so much has changed for the better there since that time. I am told that the ubiquitous statues of Lenin one saw in 1981 are no longer anywhere to be seen. Nice. show less
