Songs From the Heart: Meeting with God in the Psalms - A Bible Study and Devotional Guide by Tim Riordan
Songs from the Heart were a great edition to my daily reading. It has taught, equipped, and enlightened my experience with God as I received a deeper understanding of the book of Psalms.
What I have learned through this study is that Psalms are divided into sub-genres: Hymns, Laments, Processional, Royal, Thanksgiving, Reflection and Wisdom, which taught me more about God's heart for me and how my heart should be towards God. David was the perfect example of humility and child-like faith in show more the way He approached God, addressed Him and through his relationship with God.
It made it more tangible to me and in my approach to God.
King David's understanding of God makes this Psalms a great mediator and between us and Him. Through David's struggles, we learn how to approach God and celebrate God's infinite love for us amid our calamities.
I like how the devotional began with a glimpse into a young boy's life as he and his family were going to Jerusalem to pray. The Psalms were a big part of their lives. Through singing, they expressed their joys and fears, their longing and praise to an Almighty God. Putting their faith and hope in Him to show the way and supply in their needs.
"Fears are real and problems are intimidating, but God is bigger and faith is liberating."
After each chapter, there is time for further thought with the question section and how we can apply God's word in our own circumstances. It is relevant and eye-opening, and made the scriptures alive in my heart.
A must read for every Christian who wants to learn more about the book of Psalms and the heart of David. show less

In its simplest, secular, layperson form a proverb is merely a popular naïve and tangible saying which is often and sometimes even repeated ad nauseam. A proverb expresses a reality which is based on sound judgment or a happening in life itself. They are quite often metaphorical much like the parables of our Lord which are used to illustrate a specific ethical viewpoint of a religious principle. And those which happen to describe a show more Lord’s golden basic rule of behavior which we know as a being a maxim.
What the author of “Wisdom Speaks: Life Lessons from Proverbs” has done in his book, is to have categorized the various topics in our daily Christian lives according to the needs we have: personal and family related, and our relationships of all around us. The author, Tim Riordan, accomplishes this by giving his readers introspective questions for them to ponder over as they live their daily lives with the decisions they need to make in them.
When we talk about wisdom and what Mr. Riordan seems to want to do for us, I believe the answer can be found in:
Proverbs 15:33 [KJV] = “The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom; and before honor is humility.”
And when and if we follow what’s stated in Proverbs I feel when we arrive at a point in our relationship to the Lord that we can recognize who he is. The best citation for this, I believe, can be found in:
Ezekiel 24:24 [KJV]
“Thus Ezekiel is unto you a sign: according to all that he hath done shall ye do: and when this cometh, ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.”
