Randi L. Massingill

Disjointed, amateurish biography authored by a one-time fan who regards Nesmith as a soulless wheeler-dealer and ignores his substantial oeuvre of songs. The raw material for a better book (particularly the early influence of Bette Nesmith Graham's Christian Science beliefs on her son's worldview) is here, but Massingill didn't know what to do with it. Lots of standard rock bio dirty laundry, very little of which contributes to a clearer understanding of Nesmith's work in or out of the show more Monkees. In short, even a cursory glance at the artist's lyrics will tell you more about him than this book does.
