amazing.
everything I'd hoped for
everything I'd worried over
everything I'd never expected

The series took a turn I never would have imagined! Okay, so at least two turns - and I'm so excited it did.

I can't imagine where the series can go from here, but I can't wait to see!
Scarne knows cards really very well. Unfortunately he also likes to talk about how brilliant John Scarne is. If you can get past that there is a great deal of information, well presented in this book. (though ignore the chapter on blackjack, time has moved on quite a lot for that game since this was written)

Amongst the good stuff is a clear demonstration of the gamblers fallacy and a quick demonstration of the advantages of knowing a single card that is either in or out of play.
Nash's character has had this steady decline since the first book. What is the point of even having him in the book. He's a "main character" but has about as much presence and depth as a flat, blank piece of paper. All the drama surrounding him is superficial and unfounded.

Kaylee's motivations are also the opposite of everything we believe her character to be. And the ending is cliche. Not pleased at all.
I bought this book over twenty-five years ago. It was an old book even then, and I'm still learning from it.
After all, John Scarne knows his cards. 'Scarne on Gambling' was the bible of gamblers for half a century.
This collection features easy-to-do and self-working card tricks. But don't be fooled by that. There are many effects in this book that are still being used by professional card magicians.
Whether you're interested in learning just a few card tricks, or want to make magic your hobby show more or even your career, buy this book. It's a great place to start, and will serve you well as you advance in skill. show less
