Tichenor really understands puppets, that they come with their own voices and that you can't change that. I visited the new Nashville Public Library downtown where they have a royal puppet theatre in the Children's Room and a display of puppets from the Tichenor era. Of all the books that were de-accessioned, I chose this one to keep because of the association with Nashville and Tom Tichenor. Tichenor advocates puppetry and creative dramatics for storytimes, although his definition of the show more latter is somewhat limited. There are many puppetry books out there, but not many that speak so eloquently from the heart. It is easy for puppets to be real (and scary) for very young children, but the most important thing of all is for them to be real to the people who are working with them. If that makes us sound like we're a wee bit loony, well then, so be it. show less
