Far better then the Harvard Lampoon's "Bored of the Rings," D.R. Lloyd's "The Sillymarillion" is both a fun satire and a loving tribute to Tolkien's "The Silmarillion." Lloyd himself is aware of Harvard Lampoon's earlier satire and occasionally references it in his fourth-wall-breaking moments. While this book is, by nature, shorter than Tolkien's original work, it doesn't feel as rushed as "Bored of the Rings." Most of the humor derives from Lloyd playing with the nearly endless list of show more names for people, places, and things in "The Silmarillion" rather than the 1960s-pop-culture-driven humor of "Bored of the Rings." The nature of this book is such that casual fans of Tolkien's legendarium may not find it appealing, but those who have read Tolkien's works "The Silmarillion" and "The Unfinished Tales" will thoroughly enjoy it. show less
Amusing satire on Tolkien's Silmarillion, it is clever and uses funny names, such as Mostgoth or the "Battle of Unnumbered Beers". Not as clever as Bored of the Rings, but an amusing satire in the same way Bored of the Rings was. The one I read was the Kindle edition.
