My rating is more a function of my own taste than it is a critique of Sakellarakis's guide. The photos in the guide are nice and I love the Minoan frescoes, but all in all its a bit dry. Yes, ok, a part of me says, hello it's a museum guide, what should I expect? But I wish the time these pieces come from could be brought to life more.
A collectors’ edition of 2,600 numbered copies, capturing the unique character of Knossos. The text and original photographs in this album focus on how important the Knossos palace was in shaping the Minoan civilization and spreading its brilliance through the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean. They highlight the labyrinthine architectural remnants of the palace, its stunning fresco decorations (bull leaping, processions, rituals, the prince of lilies etc.) the functions of its many show more rooms and courtyards, its natural setting, and issues arising with regard to its anastylosis.

The text is embellished with accounts of the myths and traditions relating to the palace (Minos, the Minotaur, the Labyrinth, Ariadne, Theseus, Daedalus et al.) Additionally, it investigates historical aspects of Knossos (sanctuaries, settlements, cemeteries, etc.) along with the palace’s impact on modern art and literature.

The album is available in Greek and English. The captivating photography includes new pictures of the site, and of selected finds now kept in the Archaeological Museum of Herakleion.
