This 202 page book really excited me. I have always loved the beat, and all the fabulous instruments that produce it. When I was little I used to bang on the table and see myself as a world class drummer. Since then those dreams have faded, but not my love and appreciation for the beat. Tom has spared no expense to bring us a large and wonderful collection of beat makers from around the world, and if that show more wasn't enough he shows pictures of them, describes the sound they make, explains their history and even how to use them.

This book is a goodwill ambassador for the importance of creativity and rhythmic sound in our lives, and does an excellent job in showing us all that is available out there. I loved looking at the pictures and even the diagrams teaching the traditional rhythmic patterns from Africa and South Africa. I would recommend this encyclopedia of sound to music lovers everywhere, especially those who like to dance to their own beat.
