Good old East Buckleberry where it's illegal to have coffee and a couple of the constabulary are more like the Keystone Kops than law enforcement. That's especially worrisome because Goldie's boyfriend is on administrative leave and is trailed around by an Internal Affairs goon, and Goldie is being harassed by an obnoxious detective who has an irrational conviction that she show more murdered a man in a house she was showing as a real estate agent. Add in a sudden appearance by her obnoxious ex boyfriend as he also dogged her everywhere! Her only hope is with Persnickle her pet wombat and her two best friends who live at the retirement home. I loved the mystery and all the supernatural elements. And the fun! show less

What fun!
Of course I know that murder is no laughing matter, but there is so much situational humor here. There is the exotic landlady and the cat who talks to her, the Tarot-reading roomer with significant OCD, the events at the vet office, the mixup regarding a dog to be washed, the madness over a silent alarm, and so much more! Like most of us who live on show more the other side of the equator, I know very little about time-distance of locations in Australia, but this story takes pity on us and makes things simple and very understandable.
The publisher's blurb gives the basics, and there are no spoilers here, just watch out for the plot twists.
Great author and a gifted new series! show less

Morgana's books make me want to do spoilers. Not really about the plot, but because of the situational humor. The publisher's blurb gives clues to plot, but cannot prepare you for the twists or appreciate the geat fun and laughter it causes. Poor Amelia always thought that she was hopeless at using a stove. Turns out that she is a hereditary kitchen witch. She came to learn this when her aunt show more died and left her the house, the business, and her friends. The business is a bakery, and the house has a mind of its own. This is the third murder in this series. Don't miss it! I dare you to go 2 or 3 pages without cackling! show less

Totally original ideas and plot! The characters are every bit as quirky as those in other series by Australian author Morgana Best, and maybe a little bit more. The basics are given in the publisher's blurb, but without going into spoilers, there is no way to prepare you for much of the situational humor. I think that the main character is unique, and so is her story. This book is set in Australia, and it adds something wonderful to the minutiae of the tale.
I got the audio edition, and show more Tiffany Dougherty did a very nice job, but I would have wished for a little bit of an Aussie accent instead of sounding like an American. show less
