Kings Mountain and Its Heroes: History of the Battle of King's Mountain, 7 October 1780 by Lyman C. Draper
This book is a wonderful example of a well-researched historical monograph. Much of what Draper recorded was based on oral tradition which would have otherwise been lost had he not undertaken his work. It thus will always remain the essential source for this very important battle.
Kings Mountain and Its Heroes: History of the Battle of King's Mountain, October 7, 1780, and the Events Which Led to It by Lyman C. Draper
Nearly every book on the battle of Kings Mountain written is based on the exhaustive research by Lyman Draper in the 1870s. Draper's research papers are now available on microfilm and included much unpublished information about Ferguson's invasion of western North Carolina by his Loyalist troops and Tory militia, and how the militia's of several counties along the frontier organized, overcame significant problems of logistics, leadership and intelligence to track down and defeat an equal show more sized army that held the high ground on Kings Mountain. Other than condensing the data and making the language more 20th century, not other book as done as much justice for documenting this battle. show less
