Oh wow, what a gut punch. This is really not BL, but a slice of life tale of the horrors of being a teenager and particularly a teen's struggle to come to terms with his sexual identity.
Outed when a high school classmate sees gay porn in his phone's browsing history, Tasuku Kaname denies in public but despairs in private that everything is now ruined for him in this homophobic environment and contemplates ending it all when a mysterious figure leads him to a drop-in center where he finds a group of people who aren't without their own problems but can assure him, it gets better. Great characters, great message, much much emotion.
My current favorite manga continues to slam me with heavy drama. This time a trans man has to deal with an old friend who shows up dragging her cheerfully oblivious transphobia with her. And another character who previously seemed nice suddenly becomes a homophobic asshole.
The wonderful conclusion of the manga - we will not get all the answers and there will be sad moments - but it is just as beautiful as life can be, with lows and highs and imperfect people finding way to live perfect moments, with sadness and worries being pushed away when they find community, which feels like family, and pride.
The characters finds ways to accept who they are and to come out to the ones they love, and finally a wedding is taking place!
I loved the story and I can't wait to show more read it again. I guess my favorite thing about this story is how it is emotional but never too much! The art remains great to the end. My only negative comment would be that the asexual character is very mystical and I did not understand why. show less
