Islam is going through paths: those open to those who - dissatisfied with the formalism of established religion - sought a more personal and intense approach to the Divine. Paths, then, of strong mystical imprint, but which, as their followers grew, had to be endowed with criteria of organization, identity signs and a symbolic universe of their own.
