This book is definitely written for southerns as a reader can tell from the language, spelling, and pictures. The pictures are full of color and scenery of the bayous in the south. The words are only on one side of the pages giving more room for the artwork. The artwork makes the words come to life and the reader can visualize what is happening even if they don't quite understand the words. This is a book a readers should read more then once to pick up on how things are said and sound.
As I was reading this book, it felt as if I was having a conversation with my Pawpaw and visiting him in Delacroix. The way words were spelled like, dey, fo', a', de, and ya, were very accurate and representative of the way Cajun's may pronounce words. I for one and guilty of this, as I grew up and still live in St. Bernard Parish. The language of this book made me feel as if I was in the story, asking Louise on a date and celebrating the holidays with their children.
This is a very interesting book, i do not know much about cajun cultures. But the book has a style to it with how it is written that i know is very accurate to when it comes to the accent or the way cajuns speak. This is a book that i would read to children because it can easily keep their interest because of what the book is about. Pierre the alligator begins to live with people that treat him as their pet until he meets another alligator that later becomes his wife and they have children.
