Honestly this book should be given to every woman graduating from secondary school. With advice ranging from clothes (though she misses the "try out the outfit you're going to wear to something important like an interview before the event and if you find yourself tugging at it, wear something else" bit that I heard from someone and agree with). This is a book about working, about working life and about how to get ahead with it. It's aimed at the Irish market but some of the advice is show more universal.
I found her idea that Women distrust women because of left-over societal issues from the witch-hunt, when befriending other women could literally kill you. An interesting hyphothesis that I think needs more exploration.
Overall, it's a good book, concentrates on women who work in offices but overall a book that deserves to be used by people to help them with their professional lives. It deals with all the topics covered in a very no-nonsense way.
Would be wasted on those who believe that there is no glass ceiling and no sexism in the workplace. Yes there are some of those among women. Would also be useful for men where they're having issues with female employees, to show how often women react to issues. show less

It's nothing incredibly new but it's a short book about how to communicate, which includes bits of everything in brief. Terry Prone works for a communications company and this gives a short rundown of what she considers essentail information, including preparing yourself for TV/Radio interviews. There's also a section on dealing with people in work that are proving contentious. She's opinionated, and you can agree or disagree but she will make you think about how to communicate. I may come show more back to this book again to refresh my memory about some details but it's not a bad book about this topic and does stress actual reality rather than ideals.
I would have to agree with her about Powerpoint, it's not a great method of communication. Not in the ways its used. show less

A short book, which I made a little shorter by skipping the parental and child chapters, this is full of little pieces of advice and quotes from people both long-dead and more recent. Interesting and much of it quite witty
