This is a sreious and very popular mining geology textbook. At over 900 pages it is thorough. The author describes the geoogy that leads to specific types of deposits and then gives examples of those deposits around the world. Within the examples is often the history of that mine area and the mining technique that has been applied there.
After the geology portion of the text, there are chapters on prospecting, exploration, evaluation, and development that are also a necesary part of a mining show more operation. Thee is even a chapter on international relations and mineral conservation.
A reader in this field realizes quickly that most mineral resources are deposited very unequally around the globe. Many minerals are concentrated in just 1 or two areas. For this reason, international cooperation between the source and user countries is important for both consumers and producers. show less
