From the very beginning, Ms. Chase draws you into the story & when you surface, tired & wrung out, you realize you’ve finished the book & haven’t moved in hours. I love the way Samantha Chase can craft her characters in a way that you swear they are real. Their emotions & complexities come through in their interactions with the others & lead your emotions along with them through the journey. Christian’s panic attacks are so on point & emotionally draining. The writing brings across his show more feelings of helplessness, rage against his father, fear & pain. Sophie’s past has also dealt her an uncomfortable relationship with her family which is just as emotional but for different reasons. Can they heal themselves & find a way to move forward? show less
My heart aches. The tears have left tracks down my checks. It is rare for a book to touch me this deeply. It takes an extremely talented author like Nora Roberts or Danielle Steel to do this. I laughed. I cried. I cheered Owen on! I love Owen completely! His lack of confidence, social awkwardness, & ineptness endeared his character to me. Brooke is a complete opposite of him but was perfect for him since she had already changed her personality from the mean girl she was in school. She knew show more how difficult it was & without knowing it, was able to guide him along his path.
The interactions between Owen & his family were enlightening. Owen & Riley always relied on each other until Riley became jealous of Owen's growth. When Owen stood up for himself, didn't back down & let Riley have it, I could have cheered! The Owen they knew didn't call them on their bad manners. The interactions between Owen & his dad, Brooke & her uncle & even Owen & his mentor were tender & educational. These moments lead to more & more details of their pasts & personalities coming to the surface. The intensity of the attraction from the minute Brooke & Owen meet jumps off the page at you.
I don't know how Samantha Chase does it. Each story builds on the feelings from the previous ones. This can be read as a stand alone since each plot ends within the book. If you start at the beginning with the first book, you get more of an understanding into the personalities. I don't feel that my review has done this book justice but I've done my best. I can't wait for Darcy's story! show less

This shorter book was exactly what you want in a cozy holiday romance. It’s grumpy sunshine. It’s fake dating. It’s holiday disasters in achieving your dreams. It’s just a good time. While I enjoyed this book, it did feel like the main character had a big personality flip. This is plausible for a Hallmark style romcom, but normally, that big a change in two months would be annoying and unexpected. But the point was to make you feel warm, happy and cozy and it did exactly that.
Complicating If laughter is the music of the soul then the heart conducts the symphony. Adams and Chase once again hit all the right notes. They play to the heart with an outrageously funny and emotionally stunning tale of unconventional love and family. Carter and Daisy fell into lust before they discovered love and got a big surprise along the way. Will one moment of reckless behavior be the best decision these two opposites ever made? Complicating has repeat offender written all over it. show more One read will never be enough. show less
